Bearded dragons make great pets. They are typically very docile, require simple care, and are available captive bred from most local pet stores or breeders. They are omnivorous reptiles, munching on insects, fruits and veggies, and and grow to approximately 6-7 inches. Additionally, they are inexpensive. A bearded dragon will be perfectly happy in a 50 to 150 gallon terrarium (fish tank) with a heat lamp, sand and some branches to climb on.
The most common pet bearded dragons are known as Pogona vitticeps and are native to the central areas of Australia. There, they are found in a variety of habitats including desert, dry forests and scrubland.
